h23 with type s head

i got a h23 94 lude and im thinking about swaping my head with a type s head and getting high compression type s pistons. Should i rethink this before i buy shit or is it a good idea someone please let me know.

Subject of much debate. Some people say it's worth the effort, some people say it's cheaper and easier to just swap the h23 for an h22. Search the forums....here's a link to one thread:

H22's have a 10.6:1 compression ratio - and I think the Type S head brings the ratio up to 11.0:1, not the pistons...so you might want to research that before you buy some high compression pistons.

what if i just wanted to put the type s pistons in my h23 and port and polish the 23's head. i just want my car to run a little quicker would this help .

I'm quoting myself because I was wrong...it's the Type S pistons, not the Type S head, that raises the compression ratio to 11.1:0. The Type S piston is taller than non-Type S.
Hm...I think the height of the Type S piston is also taller than an H23 piston...so you might have issues with valve clearance. Whoever you buy the pistons from should be able to tell you what engines they will work with...or maybe someone else on this board knows more about it...anyone?

Just a suggestion, but I had my head shaved just a tad bit and port and polish. I saw a noticeable power increase. I don't know the exact compression ratio, but I know with a wet compression test Im hitting about 210lbs in each cylinder. 210lbs vrs the original 160-170lbs pr cylinder. ALdata manuals state that the original is 160-170 I believe. To my knowledge it is pretty accuate.
Oh yeah, I have a 94 si h23 with msd box and coil, cold air an 2 1/2 exaust with a catco converter.

At this point you can get a low low mileage red top h22 for nothing and its so much less hassle as well as less room for things to go wrong

A swap would not be cheaper, but it would end up being worth it.
