I have a 95 Eagle Talon front wheel drive 2.0 DOHC non turbo motor with a air intake that drops down in the front of my tire. I got caught in some heavy rain and my engine got flooded. When I started it the engine had a knock, it still runs but I dont drive it, my mechanic said that I threw a rod but it might be repaired, should I repair it or spring for a new engine, or may it be something else causing it to knock.:banghead:

are you sure it's just one cylender? If you sucked water into your engine picture it like a soda can. When the cylender compresses it the water has to go somewhere. It either blows a piston or a valve (in a soda can it usually blows a hole somewhere). If it's not too much damage I'd say have them repair it..

It's really up to you depending on the extent of the damage. But they won't know unless they open it really.

If it did throw a rod you might be able to just fix it. You would have to bore out the block and get a new set of rods and hopefully thats all. It really depends on the extent of the damage.

Take the shit apart and assess the damage. To me, if you "threw" the rod, it went out the side of the block and your shit is pretty fucked up. If its just a rod knock if you are uber lucky, its a just a set of bearings. If bad luck, you may need a new block, crank, and set of rods on top of the gaskets and bearings.

Oh yeah, welcome to the club. ;)
