compressor pulley loose

98 taurus gl broke drivebelt, a/c pulley is loose, wobbles side to side, front to back when turning it, guess compressor bearing or shaft damage, is there a way to bypass compressor with shorter belt? I can't get the water pump pulley to turn (smooth surface, turns with back of drivebelt), whichever way I route the belt , anyone bypass compressor or have done reroute of belt?
