I got my hands on this new kit and couldn't wait to get it done. I chose to build the 2005 LeMans winning 64 car.
The parts count may be little, but this car built up quite nicely.

The body is nicely proportioned, and detailed, right down to the open fender louvers.

The engine is only 4 or so parts, but painted correctly they produce a believeable compartment.

The color is CobraColors Millenium yellow. Most of the visible parts of the interior were covered with SMS carbon fiber decals.

The wing uprights were scratchbuilt to match those used on the LeMans car.

I still have to create and add full side windows, as the kit only came with 1/4 windows, and the LeMans raced car had full.
There are some other details missing in the kit like rear marker lights on the rear fender. A decal for those, the side marker lights, and the fuel fillers would be nice.

Nicely done as usual, Matt! The finish is great and the carbon fiber applications are really well done.

The wheels came chrome, I stripped the chrome, and the clear coat under the chrome, and reprayed them aluminum with a clearcoat and smoke wash.

Thanks guys. :)

Wow, a nice kit falls into the hands of a superb builder, and THIS is what you get! I have to say, I like the way the bare chassis looks, so low and batmobile-esque.
Good work, Matt!

Wow, what a great build and excellent detail for such a low parts count.

Nice job Revell, I am normally a Tamiya/Hasegawa snob but may have to go out and grab this one..

were there any problems with the kit? Bad fittings or so?

This kit fit together perfectly. The first 6 pics or so in my progress gallery have the complete kit assembled without glue. The headers are tacked down with a piece of tape, but otherwise this kit fit together, and stayed together very nicely.

I did shave off a little bit of the bottom of the body at the bottom of the windshield so that it did not touch the airbox.

Is it TOTALLY box stock except for CF decals? Cause I really like the way the wheels are placed if you compare to the C5-R..
Really nice model you have there.. be proud ;)

how did you get the hood to open like that? on mine it came molded on. did you cut it away or did it come like that and where did you find this kit. when i finaly get some money:banghead: , i will probably buy another racing kit and this might be it.

it´s the Revell C5-R.. I cut it open myself.. I thought it was sad to see so nice engine detail and no hatches to open.. So I opened up front and rear as you can see.. Let´s see what we can with the C6-R then..

Thanks

The ride height and wheels location is box stock.

I added CF decals, PE for the marker lights on the door, and the wing uprights. The Simpson Decals on the seatbelts were from an old C5-R decal sheet.

This thing is beautiful!!! I didn't know this kit was even out yet. Great job. What scale did they release this in? Hopefully 24th and not 25th.

It is 1/25th scale, same as the C5-R kit is.

What decals are there in this kit? and do you perhaps any more pics of the WIP?

There are decals to do the 63 and 64 LeMans cars, and there are decals to do the 3 and 4 ALMS cars. A pic of the decal sheet is in the box contents gallery I posted.

I agree with everybody before me! That car looks AMAZING! I saw that at my model shop, but I passed it up for a regular Z06

That's a great looking build as usual.

The only thing that I don't really like about it is the safety net by the window - it looks terribly "thick" or is that just the photos?

Congrats!

Looks great Matt! Did you mention that the front fender vents were molded open? Did you have to mess with the simple suspension? Or was that just the goof on teh boxart?

CADguy
08-08-2006, 08:20 AM
Thanks all, I really appreciate the feedback

Klutz_100 - The window net is out of scale for sure. An aftermarket or scratchbuilt version would be much more believable.

Bluebaja - You're right the fender louvers are molded open, I didn't have to do any special work to get them like they are. Those are my most favorite feature of this kit I think. I did not have to modify the suspension at all. The box art does look off, and I think it was that the front wheels did not get pushed onto the metal axles far enough, and the rears got pushed on too much, and look to sit too far inside the wheel wells.

Looks awesome, Matt. I am forever amazed at how clean models come out in your hands. It looks stellar. It seems that Revell has finally come into their own with their kits, too. I got a C6 ZO6 and the molding is really good, and the fit is perfect. Nice work, no, gorgeous work on that racecar!

Great looking model! Is this kit molded in the plastic that crazes easily? I usually use Krylon Primer. I could use Tamiya primer.

I primered this car with Cobra Colors VX, then Tamiya White, and had no issues with the Cobra Colors paint crazing the plastic.

Thanks for all the great comments guys, I really appreciate it.

Wow, what an outstanding build! The colour great.
It's very striking to look at - sort of makes me want to go out and buy one to build straight away.
