replacing the timing belt

i have a 1998 zx2 i was wondering how hard it is to replace the timing belt? also do zx2 have the reputation of crank walking.....the car i bought the mechanic told her the car jumped time so they replaced everything they were supposed to but they said they would get the car running for a couple of secs and then it would cut right back off i have the car and it stays running just runs rough...i belive the timing is off..please lets me know what the problem may be..thank you so much...

the Z has an issue with crankwalk in th 00 year, and that was due to an undersized. for the most part its rare to get a Zetec with crankwalk.

Pull your timing cover if the belt is cracked or looks bad it needs replaced.
Buy a manual and a quality name brand belt. The manual will have a picture showing how all marks are supposed to go. Use a wrench and move the pulley where the mark on the harmonic balancer pulley meets the zero mark. Watch timing marks and tension closely. Look where everything is before removing the belt. It isn't bad if you have done a few before. If any friends have done this ask them if they will come over when you are ready to install.
Make sure you have wrenchs before you start.Read the manual good before you start.
