Whatup. Here's a pretty n00b question. I'm new to the V8 scene and am thinking about building a 350 small block. Could anyone give me a list of common cars/trucks that were produced with small block 350s with 4 bolt main from the factory? Then I'll know where to start lookin for a block at the 'yard? Thanks alot.

There are Thousands of cars and trucks with a 350 in them. Decide if you have to pass smog, and if you want carb, fuel injected, TBI, TPI, or a LT1 350, or a LS1 350. There is tons of them.

A LS1 is a 346 not a 350 but most 350 SBC were 2 bolt main's. The only I know for sure that had 4 bolt mains was the corvette's and I am not even sure if all the years the 350 was used in corvettes if they had the 4 bolt main version's. That might take a bit of research. I do know that all LT1 350 Corvette engines used 4 bolt mains though.

if your looking to build just a mild 350, you dont need a 4 bolt, a 2 bolt will work fine

All Chevy trucks (that I know of) had 4 bolt mains. The old 3/4ton C20 and the newer 2500 series trucks definitely had 4 bolt mains. The better block to have is the post 1988 blocks that came stock with roller cams/lifters. That way you can have better performance w/rollerization w/o the cost of expensive retrofit roller lifters.
I have 2 1999 Vortec 350 4 bolt blocks that are standard bore and 2 crank/rod/balancer sets for sale if you're interested in building a stroker.
I just picked up a '68 Camaro basket case project car. I plan to use a 6 liter LS1 with the MSD ignition system and the Edelbrock carbureted intake. The LS1 has 6 bolt mains, making a great candidate for huge power potential.
I agree with Blownalcy, 2 bolt mains are strong enough to handle even impressive power levels.
What are your plans/performance expectations? There's plenty of saavy peeps here to give good advice. So let us know what you want to do.

6 liter LS2, you mean, or are you upping the displacement in the ls1?

yeah, ive seen 2 bolts handle alot of power, i think the whole 4 bolts are all that will work is a myth, for my first car, my dad and i built a 400 hp 350 with a 2 bolt and had no problems, and if you convert it to splayed main caps, youll be even stronger than a 4 bolt

Babs, take your temperature... you haven't mentioned a 15,238 CI boosted, injected, sprayed and laid small block yet ... :cwm27:

Thanks for asking. My plans are to build a 383 small block stroker (carb'd) making about 450 hp/ ft lbs and drop it in a '94+ S-10. Hopefully I'll be able to build it with low enough compression to run a good shot of n2o or possibly supercharge/turbocharge it one day. This will be my first venture into the v8 world. I've done some 4cyl rebuild work and motor swaps but never built a street/strip v8.
I do need a 350 block and crank to start building the stroker so send me an email at [email protected] and we'll see if we can work something out. Thanks :grinno:

My Chevy HD has the 6liter LS1, and that's what I was referring to. The truck blocks have the better performance oriented heads and LQ4 cam for better torque/low end power. It's an iron block oppsed to the Vette/GTO's aluminum LS2 (or am I wrong?) I've heard of the LS6 but haven't researched it, or is that the Z06 engine? One bad dude w/all the titanium internals.
I wasn't sure how to spell savy (saavy/savvy???), anyhow, there's a bunch of smart people that hang out here.

yet being the key word... i think instead of a 350, you should build yourseld a 526 ci kb hemi on nitro, i think that would suffice(improving my vocabulary!!!... YAY!!!) happy jim
