Transmission Problems?

I have a 93 PA Ultra/Supercharged Engine. I know next to nothing about cars. My nephew and another acquaintance have stated that I will need to replace my transmission. It has slipped a couple of times, but nothing else that I have noticed. I have about 166,000 miles on it. Is there truly a problem with the trans on 93's at this mileage? I live in Michigan and am moving to Georgia. My nephew states that the car will not make it out of Michigan. The car doesn't smoke. Are there other signs?

I had the same problem with my 96 Bonniville. GM's around 150k usually need trany work, unless you change your tranny fluid ever 50k. I had to spend the 750 and get the trany rebuilt. your clutch fans and torque converter are just probably old and need to be replaced. Have you checked to make sure the trany was full of fluid? That does it too.
