Received my kit today (red car box art) from HLJ and on opening the box - no engine !.:banghead:

I've emailed HLJ but just wondered if I've been unlucky & it's an isolated case of being packed incorrectly by the manufacturer.

Anybody received the kit with the engine included ?.

Yours miserably
Andy

Did you buy a kit with the engine (red car on the box), or without (white car on the box)? If you did buy the right one, you should contact HLJ, and as them to get the part tree from Aoshima.

What do you think of the kit apart from the missing engine?

My one (white box art) arrived last week, it'll be so nice to build a Corolla with panel lines that don't look like they were done freehand with a warm soldering iron and rudimentary lights.

Must say the plastic is very thin for the interior components though!

Does the instruction have steps showing the construction & installation of the engine? Also, if it is a typical Aoshima instruction manual, it should have a contents page with the parts listed. If it does, then it sounds like the parts were left out of your particular kit. Just email [email protected] and a lady called Ardith should sort you out.

Tell HLJ for sure.

Here's what you should get http://www.1999.co.jp/asp/GoodsDetails_e.asp?Bno=&Typ1_c=102&Typ2_c=106&Typ3_c=118&SPage=1&SC=17&SN=Search+result+Search+for+%3A+ae86&It_c=10045610&andor=0&scope=0&scope2=0&thumb=1&sortID=1&urikire=1&sort_sort=0&ItKey=ae86&app_url=KeyReference_right_e.asp

The red car box art one even have a picture of the engine.

Notice the engine tree on the right.

Aoshima is royally messed up this time. I pre-ordered 7 of these kits from HLJ since last year? And they only could sent me 4 and I had to wait for their 2nd shipment in-order to send me 3 more. The demand for this kit is probably so high, they can't make them fast enough, hence, how they messed up not putting all the parts in. Or, they used the wrong box? Who knows. Just bitch to HLJ.

Thanks for the replies - I guess it was just a packaging mistake @ Aoshima - I've contacted HJL - usually they're pretty good about this sort of thing.
Cheers

Damn, nice stuff!! Chassis looks a lot better than Fujimi's obsolete kit. Any more pictures? Hopefully I can pick up one this week if it isn't too expensive.

I didn't even know that kit was released.. How does it compare to the Fujimi '86? I have the Initial D version that I was going to build as the anime style. I wonder if i'd be better off buying this Aoshima version and using the decals from the Fujimi kit? Is the engine the main difference in the kits?

Hang on to your hats guys, when my kits arrives (hopefully within a couple days), I'll do a full comparison write up between the two brands.

I'll be looking forward to it.

Can't comment on the engine but....

The Aoshimi kit blows the Fujimi offering clean out of the water IMO. It has poseable lights, clear crisp transparencies, it has brakes, proper suspension, an axle, the parts actually fit together, the panel and moulding lines are crisp and clear....

It's well worth the extra 600 yen or whatever it is.

if only aoshima released an initial D line of their own.

That all sounds good to me.

I really looked forward to building this one when it was first announced a year ago. I built the Fujimi one a couple of years ago and the quality was toy like. I still have the Project D version of it unbuilt. I probably will buy this and use the decals from the Fujimi kit.

Wait a minute...Is a white plastic version available? I sure hope so. If the kit is red, then the red may bleed through the white...

Nice coat of primer will take care of that.
The white version doesn't have the engine parts.

Holy crap! It's out! And me without any income or consistant internet connection! If this isn't motivation to get a job quickly, I don't know what is :( I will be looking forward to that write-up.

Hey all,

I just figured I will share this here. While surfing the net, I came across this topic from Scale Auto Magazine Forum:

http://www.scaleautomag.com/sca/community/forum/post.asp?method=Reply&TOPIC_ID=36659&FORUM_ID=32&S_ID=

A member of the forum (zodc) has already started the kit and has already shared some pics of the engine bay in the post.

It's not bad.

Winston
