AC Compressor Problem

I decided to fix the AC that Quit about three years ago. It was the usual CCRM. Anyways I had the compressor grounded out on a switch and ran it very rarely mainly because the car would stall at idle. I never had any problems. Now after fixing this though the system runs excellent at idle, however at speed, the compressor runs at about 5 second cycles of off/on which causes the engine to surge when driving. The system blows cold at speed or idle. By speed I mean anything above 1000 RPM. The pressure on the suction side drops to about 25 PSI when the compressor is on then shuts off, pressure shoots up to about 80 psi after this. Over and Over, When I shut the car off the pressure is around 150 PSI, I'm guessing, the gauge I have doesn't go that high. Any Ideas?
