So how bout those cheapo e-bay catbacks?

My civic recently developed a hole in the exhaust in the pipe before the muffler. Thinking of picking up one of those knockoff catbacks on ebay and putting that on. Figure it will give the tiniest bit of extra performance and fix the hole issue.

no performance, it'll just make your car sound like shit.

Either get a full aftermarket catback or weld in a stock muffler

he is telling you the truth. grab a full catback or weld in a stock muffler. just my replacing the stock muffler with a generic one will only make it louder and maybe losen up 1 hp or so. if u get the whole cat back, u eliminate the resonators and stuff, basically more free flowing and more power, yet doenst sound like shit. if ur gonna do that, u dont u just cut off the pipe of the muffler and get one of these pipe extentions and have no muffler at all?

^he'll loose some back pressure and it'll prolly make the car pretty loud too. I would just get the stock muffler replaced unless you really want to make it louder and more vibrant.

The hole isn't in the muffler. It's in the pipe.

^ohh well in that case, just go to an exhaust shop and get a custom cat back exhaust (that's what I'd do). It all just depends man, like do you want it to sound louder or what>?

Louder would be fine as long as it's not gonna be annoying. Some of the exhausts on e-bay come with silencers. I just dunno if they're going to fit right or be crappy construction. You get what you pay for, I guess.

These are the ones I'm talking about http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Greddy-EVO-2-EVO2-92-95-Civic-EX-LX-DX-Catback-Exhaust_W0QQitemZ330013666138QQihZ014QQcategoryZ33 633QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Otherwise, do places like Midas and what not do full custom piping? If they do how much does that cost.

Hmm.. the shipping on those is $99. Scratch that I guess.

So what's a good place to go for a custom piping job? I'm in CT. Any big chains to go to?

if u get the whole cat back, u eliminate the resonators and stuff, basically more free flowing and more power, yet doenst sound like shit.?eliminate a resonator on a low-displacement 4 cylinder and you will have a terriblely raspy exhaust, unless 'raspy' sounds good too you, then it will sound like shit.

if the hole is in the pipe go to autozone and buy a pipe repair kit (its a pipe wrap).. works good.

yea midas will build you an exhaust, but it's 9 X out of 10 going to be crimp bent, which is more restrictive than mandrel bent. I mean, I don't the the results will even be negligible anywhoo, so yeah, just go get a custom one from midas or car-ex or merlin, etc...

Grab a file and file out the hole to elliminate the rust build up around it, then go to the auto parts store and grab a muffler repair kit. They have a tape you can wrap around the pipe where the hole is, the tape melts into a steel-like composite and will seal that gash.

or you can go to any muffler shop and pay 200 bucks for a custom cat-back.

This is so true. Just have the pipe replaced by a muffler shop. It won't cost much. Silencers still make it sound like shit. Look at a good catback. Most will have some sort of second muffler or resonator in the mid pipe. It's there for a reason...
