Why do people think the WS6 is slower then the SS?

It seems like alot of people just dismiss my car as some wanna be SS whenever i'm at the illegals. They usually associate it with being slower then the SS, though rag times typically show the LS1 powered WS6 to be faster then the similarly powered Camaro SS.
Is this based on the LT1 Camaro SS being alot quicker then the LT1 powered WS6, or is this just due to looks, or something else?

I doubt the people that think the SS is faster even knew the LT4 SSes were faster than the LT1s, or what an LT4 is because it's rare.
The reason is that random people know about the popular Camaro even though the Pontiac is more refined. Then you have AF's point of view: The Firebird is cooler looking than the Camaro so it's faster!!

 Where the hell did that little misconception come from?. Yes the LT4 Firehawks and SS were faster than the LT1 version but with the LT1 SS and LT1 WS6 it was a driver race with either the possible victor.

I don't have a WS6 and Formula's are the lightest of all the LT1 v8 powered F-bodys, so I tend to see alot of people claim they are the fastest by a tenth or two but there is always a car to car power variance even with the same exact drivetrain so it doesn't make that big of a deal in a race if a guy is one or two hundred lbs lighter. Its still a drivers race.

Either way, it's impossible to gauge the reason that (people think) Camaros on the road are faster. There could be more souped up camaros out there and it could have nothing to do with stock specs. The bottom line is that all f-bodies have the same performance starting out and from there it's anyone's guess.
...Why is the formula lighter?

...Why is the formula lighter?
Less options and lighter body panels such as Smaller hatch spoiler. Lighter front bumper (no foglights and wiring).

Car & Driver noted in their articles that "For some reason the similarly powered Firebird is slower then the Camaro". Also if you read an article in Car & Driver they tested a LT1 powered SS Camaro to a 2-3 tenths faster 1/4 mile then a similarly powered WS6 (They also had a 96/97 Cobra in that issue).
Luos where are your track times, buddy???? :D

Eh, that was one test study. Like I said there is variances between the same exact cars coming off the line at the same time. So I wouldn't put too much faith into that.

Still working on getting some minor things worked out before going to the track.
Mostly just grinding and repainting the rear calipers.

My friend is trying to talk me into buying an LS1 WS6. I told him (somewhat jokingly) that if I sold the maro, combined with the money I have in the bank, that I would have enough to buy one. He thinks I should, but if I do that, I'll have no money for college or mod money. But I do agree, the WS6 looks cooler than most camaros.
But they are practically the same car, so driver's race.

I do agree that it is a drivers race however, if you take 2 of the same car and add ground effects (front, sides, back), a bigger spoiler, and not to mention the pop-up headlights. All that extra weight adds up. What's the old saying? "One hundred pounds is equal to a tenth of a second". I remember in the 80's and 90's in magazines, they always said the T/A was always a little slower because of the weight.
It's just like with the 5.0 Mustangs, you take a LX hatch with exactly the same options as the GT. The LX weighs about 300 pounds lighter. That's basically three tenths of a second. That could be up to 3 car lengths.
Here's my 2 cents, THE WS6 LOOKS MEAN AS HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The SS is cool also but, it has more of a clean look. I think the same thing about the LX and GT 5.0's. One day I like the GT better than the next I like the LX better (because of the cleaner look). I guess it depends on what day it is.

The majority of LT1 WS6's were made on Formula platforms, which was lighter than the Z28 platformed used on the SS.

To be honest I think College is damn near worthless. I can't tell you how disheartening it is to see a dude w/ an engineering degree working at a movie theatre, or a guy with a PHD applying at Consumer Affairs for a Small Claims Advisor position. Finding a job out there is more based on your experience then it is your education. I have two degrees (A Bachelor's Of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and an American Bar Association Degree in Corporate Law).
Reflecting back on it all, it was fun getting my degree, but honestly most workplaces just look at a degree as a test of your ability. Think about it, what do you truly learn at a University that you will utilize at your workplace? If you go to a trade school it's alot better idea. You'll have hands on experience, and deal with all the problems you run into on a day to day basis. I suppose I write better then the average Joe, but it really isn't worthwhile all the time I put into College.
That's just me rambling on. Take my advise for what it is. Go to trade school if you believe me, but don't if you disagree.
