Timing belt 99 VR3

my jetta is at about 116500 miles, its the jetta 3 the boxier style, I was told the timing belts need to be changed around 105000 miles, how bad of a job is it to do? I never done on in a jetta before...

vr6 does not have timing belt. It uses chains and guide rails. They are not necessary to replace unless they are making noises. Located on driver side of engine between engine and transmission. You have to remove the transmission and intake manifold/ valve cover to replace the chains. You can buy "vr6 timing chain sets" online. just go to google and type in "vr6 timing chain set" if its a manual, i reccomend replacing the flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate , and rear transmission mount when doing chains also.
