Ok I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS. The radio's audio has started to fade in and out. I never loose power to the radio but the audio drops as well as the chime (trunk is open or door is open) goes out when the audio is out on the radio. Sometimes the audio is on and I can be driving down the road and it will finally come on and stay on or go out again. I havent had any work done on it recently.

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks
JJ

Hello. I own a 01 Monte SS, with same radio issue; fading, no chime, ect..
It's probably the radio. I have radio at the repair shop now when I find out the exact diagnosis, I'll post.

FYI. I had also replaced the BCM & Cylinder Lock Ass which, included the Ignition Swith.

PS. Chevy wants ridiculous Cash, at the tune of $732, for a new stock radio! :banghead:

Will get back Tues. pm.

I wouldnt head out to the stealership for any help on your radio.. your best bet would lie in an audioshop or buy an aftermarket one from Best buy or so and im sure the problem would go away with that.

Haha yeah, I hear ya.. 700 is ridiculous. You could upgrade your whole car's audio and have it heard across a mile for that price just about.

Check the simple stuff like the battery cables and engine grounds first. Battery voltage issues can cause all kinds of electrical gremlins. The ignition switch/harness is a common problem in these cars. If you have other gremlins, like dash light problems and the key getting stuck, I'd bet your ignition harness needs replacing.

I thought my radio was dying once. It had some similar symptoms to yours. It was all because I needed a new battery.
