This is my frist post.I have a 94 Taurus it run fine, but from time to timeit just dies out on me.Sometime I can hit it with a little starting fluid and it restart but does not run good until it sits along while, like overnight. But then it run fine until the nextinciddent. My son seem to feel its the fuel injectors, but I feel if it were the fuel injectors it would run dad all the time.I feel it could be a sensor.I have notice that my fuel tank was a 1/4 full the last two times it cut off.But it still restarted before I filled it up.Could use any help.
Thank you

Sounds like a ignition control module on the side of the distributor. They are well known for going dead when they get hot and starting to work again after they have cooled off.

I'd lean more towards suspecting a weak fuel pump. The fuel pump is an electric motor in the fuel tank, and like any electric motor, it can wear out. If the ignition control module were failing, starting fluid wouldn't help. Of course, it could be coincidence that in the time it takes to get the starting fluid injected, the module cools enough, etc.

Borrow or buy a fuel pressure guage and next time the car doesn't want to start, check the fuel pressure. If the fuel pressure is low, you may want to replace the fuel filter as a routine maintenance item anyway, but if that doesn't fix the pressure issue, I'd suspect the fuel pump.

A stuck fuel pressure regulator could lead to low fuel pressure, but faulty regulators seem to fail less often than fuel pumps.

I have change that control module two weeks ago.The fuel pump sounds like a possibility.I guess I will buy the fuel pressure guage.I just changed a fuel pump on my 88 Tbird.
I would like to thank you guys for your help

Don't think so... although it's included in the problem...

reekor hit it on the head.

But a bad ignition module would not explain why the vehicle will start when starter fluid is used. This is why I suspect a fuel issue. However, I did mention in my post, "Of course, it could be coincidence that in the time it takes to get the starting fluid injected, the module cools enough, etc."

Morning Folks,
I hope this will help others.I went to the Zone(Auto Zone)the put it on a tester and told me it was the EGR or ERG thing so I change it out and bam,the car now starts and has not cut off after 4 days of driving.I,ll change the O2s today.Just hope this info.will help others.

It sounds like they sold you a DPFE sensor, or Differential Pressure Feedback EGR sensor - the EGR position sensor. I don't understand how this sensor would cause the problems you were having, but it would be great for you if it does!

This may be another one to keep as a sticky note for future reference. Thank you for the follow-up!

no, i know what you mean, the egr probably had a large carbon build up, or went bad, and the 94's will not run unless the egr works, i have no idea why but i tried to run mine without it to clean the intake manifold (carb cleaner to help with my carbon buildup) and the car wont run, the starter fluid probably cleaned it up just enough to let the egr work for the time being but when it cooled down the egr probably stuck again.
