transmission shifting at 3000 rpm

99 mountaineer auto transmisssion shifting at 3000 rpms. then runs and shifts fine all day long or untill it sets for a few hours. i thought it might be a temp isue but now that it is summer it still does it. the older models i would look at the modulator valve not sure what to expect from our new improved technolgy.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery to reset the computer? Worth a shot.

On my 1992 explorer, thats what happened before eventually it started doing it all the time. I had to have it rebuilt.
