Got a new problem. We discovered one of my valves are burnt on my 94 Tercel. We've got the head off the car, springs and all removed and everything cleaned and found the burnt valve. About how much does it cost to have this fixed?

Wish I could tell you how nuch for just the valve. All 4 of my exhaust valves were burnt when I took the head off my 92, just went ahead and took it to the machine shop and it was $300.00 for the whole thing reworked.

Dadburn, all four? Now that's a bummer. I found a head this guy has for $250, everything new, new cam and all new valves, all we have to do is put it on. Sounds like I got a good deal. I know I was really bummed out. I've been miserable without my car. How does your car run now that you've got it fixed?

make shure what ever you do, have new vlave seals put on, that is what goes bad in these tercels and start to use and smoke oil.

The car has been running great since the rebuild. I have put 25K on it and it hasn't used any oil between changes.

97cavalier, that was one of the reasons we had taken the head off the car to begin with. The valve stem seals were so rotten that it might as well not had any at all. That sure explained why I used at least two quarts of oil a week per tank of gas. My husband took the head completely off the car so he could get all that carbon and access oil cleaned out and discovered the burnt valves. It ended up having two burnt. Instead of round they were egg shaped. This guy we are friends with in racing is the one who's getting it fixed for me. We've now decided to have my old head redone instead of swapping it for another one. That's gonna cost 145 dollars instead of 250, which I thought wasn't a bad price. After my husband cleaned the head real good it shines now like a diamond.
Gator2764, I won't know how to act in not having to buy oil every week and it staying full. Maybe having it fixed will now cost me less in gas, oil, and having to buy new spark plugs ever so often. We all know that gas and oil is like gold as high as it's getting.

Don't forget to clean the EGR!!!
I also replaced the rings, rod bearings, oil pump, water pump Tensioners for the timing belt and belt as well. After pulling the head the cylinder walls looked like they were just machined and the rod bearings looked like they just came out of a box after 193K miles. We decided agains taking the crank out. The cam didn't even have wear on it. I think I have about $800.00 including about$200 in Bass Ale beer. Damn mechanic likes the expensive stuff. I am glad we did the partial rebuild, it runs great now..

Gator, I've finally got my car back and running great. Come to find out it also had 4 burnt valves. It was really nice to be able to go to town and not have the darn thing go dead at every red light or stop sign. I've been told that gas milage should be better as well, now maybe I can save some money on gas, and having to put oil in it every week.
