Man, I would be so pissed if I was the owners of the car, that cop totally ruined a perfectly good Z.

Best part of the report was when he said "The Officer had only been at the department for a month..."
Which strikes me as funny, but if he was such a newb, where was his FTO? (Field Training Officer)
Unless of course he transfered into the department from another Police force...

They wouldn't be able to catch her... Crown Victorias (and other various police cruisers) when fully equipt for police duty run about a mid 16 second 1/4 mile and struggle to do over 120mph.
A 350z would have no problem leaving them behind.
On TV lastnight, watching a show "Worlds Wildest Police Videos"... you know the kind, anywho they showed a chase of two bad guys running from the LAPD on a local freeway in a Z31 300zx... it was working the police pretty hard through traffic, even in the rain.
Only reason they got close enough to initiate the pit-manuever was cause of traffic. I was like "GO Z GO! *pit* TURN INTO THE SPIN... GIVE THROTTLE!!! TURN INTO THE SPIN!!! Nooooo don't counter steer... well you're caught now... idiot."

They always look close in those videos because most of the drivers aren't really pushing their car all that hard, and the helicopter sitting up that high makes the distance look smaller.
That, and most of those shows are edited to all hell to make it look like everyone gets caught. I know of a number of chases on that show where they edit it to show a car spin out or slow down and the cops close in, and it looks like they get caught, but they don't show the other half of the chase that happens after words where the kid works over the cops hard and looses them. Unless you see the cops physically pulling the person out of the car, you can put money down that the driver got away.

Agreed, not everybody gets away, and not everybody gets caught either.
I mean, when they brought up the chase video of the Z31 300ZX, they called it a high performance sports car, it was totally stock... not exactly high performance.
And they showed the guy bail, run down the freeway, then get tagged by the front end of a California Highway Patrol car, then tackled from behind by an Officer... it was comedy.
Guy gets tagged from behind by the cop car, slides up on the hood and goes for a ride, cop slams brakes, guy goes sliding off, lands on his feet and keeps staggering forward... then gets owned by some ex-linebacker cop from behind.

Man, that's sheer comedy. Can you say lawsuit. I'd sue that Police Dept. silly. I'm sure the guy has attorneys calling him at this moment. If they don't consider that 350Z totalled i'd be amazed.
Sucks to be the owner, cause most likely he will have to wait awhile to get reimbursed.

Why'd those cops decide to pit him there in traffic?; they sent his car into civilian vehicles during the pit maneuver and when trying to stop him from fleeing.

Yeah, judgement on that one was iffy.
Maybe they got word from the "higher-ups" saying to end it before it got any worse. As far as crashes go, that was fairly low speed... maybe that's why the did it then? Maybe the order was "next time he slows, take him out before he can get up to speed" ?

There was a guy in Ft Lauderdale Florida area about 2 years ago called "The Black Rider" by cops. He had a Hyabusa 1300 modded. I don't know how much, but it was enough for him to take the same highway everyday and speed his ass off. When cops would try to flag him, he would slow down enough to slap the car on the hood and take off. Cops NEVER had a chance. They tried for months to radio ahead, road blocks, choppers, everything short of road spikes (I assume because that would be intentional murder considering the known speeds of travel)
Anyway the guy played this game for a long while and as the story goes as I heard it, he got busted for drugs and when the cops searched his house, they found the black 1300 in the garage.
edit: on the flip side, there was another story in the paper (again in Ft Lauderdale area) of a guy who was running from highway patrol on his 1100 and was doing a damn good job of it. The helicopter never caught up to him, but thats because he had apparently tried to take an exit ramp at speed and flew off into the overpass. His head (still in helmet) was found about 80 yards away from his bike which was well over 60 yards from the off ramp

It's been too long since I've gone out and goofed around in a parking lot.:frown:
I did this in the rain when I was a newb at the young age of 17 in a little Chevette. Yes the thing was slow as hell and it was from a stoplight turning but I learned my lesson after that. With RWD in an uncontrollable slide you always steer into the direction of the slide. I'll never forget that moment when I spun back the other way, bounced up the curb right in front of the hardware store my best friend's mom worked at onto the sidewalk and having some homeless dude be all like "are you drunk?"... I said, "no and STFU" and that dude took off because the cops were there in no time... all in all, I got no ticket or nothing but had to pay for a new rear end on my POS 84 Chevette... sucked.
