Hi there hope someone can help me identify a possible problems with car

Hi Have a Vauxhall Corsa on W reg, it's done 84K miles.

I have noticed a little noise coming from the engine, it seems that when i start it up and rev the engine i notice a rattling sound coming from the engine which slowley eases away the harder I rev. I notice as I start off in first gear and start accelerating this quiet rattling appears but the harder i rev it sort of goes away and it happens in all gears. if I am driving and i ease of the accelerator there is no sound but as i press down on the accelerator it comes on again.

If I open the bonnet and push on the accelarator cable i notice that the noise seems to be coming from the top of the engine somewhere, it doesn't really sound deep in the lower engine part. the car seems to drive fne but this noticable noise is worrying me.

does anybody know what it possible could be and any ideas how much it may cost to get fixed?

thank you

Hi,
I am having the same problem as you and i took it to my mechanic this afto who told me that it is possibly the camshaft, so this is going to cost me and he said we are talking of in the hundreds here! things is he said the problem wont go away and it will just get nosier and then possibly cease up so i am in two minds whether to get rid of the car for another one, cos i have already spent enough money on it with other things that have gone wrong with it!

The noise could also come from an ancillary component, but if the noise comes from the engine it self, chances are its a worn camshaft or valve gear.

Had exactly the same sort of noise at 81k KM on 1.4 Barina. Turned out to be the bearing in the waterpump. Cost AUS$2000 at the dealer to fix it. They replaced the timing belt and tensioner too. These little motors are compact but terrible difficult to do anything with. One would think a water pump would be a simple thing to change but somehow I think these were designed in Belgium!
