a/c compressor help

I'm replacing the a/c compressor in my 96 s-10 with the 4.3L and i know how to do it but i'm not shure about the freon, do i just disconect the lines from the compressor or do i have to take the freon out of it before i do that????

Federal law requires that you use a refridgerant recovery system to remove the R-12(or 134a depending on what you have in your vehicle) to a recovery tank. With the price of R-12 being what it is today you will want to filter and reuse your old refridgerant.

That would be fine if he had r12, everything since 95 is r134... That said he's going to need to vaccume the system as well when putting in the freon, as well as replace the orifice tube

That's true and most compressor manufacturers require you to replace the reciever/drier/accumulator for the warranty to be in effect. I did say "R-12(or 134-a....)".
