air intake question

I have a 98 civic ex.
I installed a generic air ram intake which i bought from ebay a while ago.
My cousin helped me install it. My question is when he installed it, only the o2 sensor was hooked up to the intake. Buth there were other hoses
that were hooked up somewhere to the stock intake. Is it ok to leave these hoses hanging and not used? I don't want to damage anything.
I think these are breather hoses.

You probably should at least get some breather filters for the hanging hoses. They are not recieveing Filtered air the way they are now and filtered air is always better.

do you have a pic? unless im misunderstanding there isnt an oxygen sensor attached the intake(on accords anyways). on stock, there's the hose to the crankcase, and another that goes to the air boost valve(as stated by aem's instructions)

when i installed my intake the problem i first had was that there was a plastic tube that went from the stock box out to behind the headlight, which contained the valve, controlling temp and flow of air into the stock box.

heres what i did. i put the hose to the crankcase(breather), then i capped the other two. the left was coming from the air control valve near the headlight. and the right i capped with a filter. that used to come from the other tiny tube from the stock intake.

oh wait i made a mistake. So far the o2 sensor is hooked up the intake
and the blue hose that came along with this intake is hooked up to the intake to the engine. Then there is this hose which doesn't connect to anything, this hose has two ends that are open to air. It's just stuck to another hose parallel to it. I think it's glued together. I can't tell if these two hose that are stuck together has an opening where these two hoses connect. If it does have an opening then, i guess i have to buy a breather filter. But if it doesn't have an opening then no harm done right?

where did this extra hosecome from? it cant be connected to nothing or else it wouldnt be there in the first place. can you get a pic by chance?? thatd make it alot easier

stradda i think that extra black hose is the hose that was connected to my stock air intake box to the engine. Since they provided me with a blue hose when i bought the intake, i used this one instead. What u think?

oh, was one of those two hoses that are "stuck" together originally going from the intake to the engine? and the other goes under the pgm-fi(fuel injection-the thing in the pic)

if thats right, it doesnt matter, just leave it how it is. the hose that is still being used has coolant in it, so dont mess with it.

O2 sensor on an intake?

the sensor is the air temp sensor right? then there is a hose that connects from the intake to the valve cover. if you don't have a hole for that on the intake, just buy a breather filter and put it on the valve cover. as for the two tubes, i know exactly what u are talking about, all 6th gen sohc civics have those. it is two tubes, one that connected the stock vacuum hose from intake to valve cover, the other connects the coolant from throttle body to block.

hey man couldn't help but read over what you guys were saying... i'm in a similar predicament, i just went to put an hks filter on my rsx and there was an additional hose that went to the top of this box i had to take off, i'm pretty sure it goes to the crank case.... is there a filter that you can buy to put on there or something? it looks dumb sitting there out in the wind.

it is fine how it is the open tube was used for a breather on the stock inake. Leave the other line though because radiator fluid runs through that to heat the throttle body

O2 sensors go on the exaust manifold.
u probably mean the mass air flow sensor.
BTW, the extra hose goes to the pcv
(positive crankcase ventilation) valve on top of your valve cover. all it does is recycle air.

i have an accord also. dont worrk about that "hanging hose". if u look closely its actuallly a metal tube welded/connected to another, with 2 rubber hoses on either side. this was the hose to vent the crankcase gases back into your intake system. but since you hooked up that apparent "blue hose" that came with the aftermarket intake, your all set. better yet, go to your local auto/hardware shop and buy 2 breather filters, 1 for the valvecover and one for the intake where the hose connects. it will keep your throttle body plate sqeaky clean. :)

I think it looks stupid with 2 breathers(valve cover / intake) The valve cover is fine, plug the intake. Whats the point of having the breather on a CAI(intake part) to suck in HOT air, kinda voids the whole purpose.

well i have one on mine, and when used with the right components, the hot air doesnt affect, and it looks showy too. :) by components i mean intake heat shield, heat wrap, etc. you know, anything to get the coldest air possible to the cylinders. i have a short ram, filter heat shield, and a custom mechanism running front my bumper blinker assy. to the filter. it rams all the cold air on to the K&N. not a bad idea and a good investment for a used spray bottle and some PVC piping with bends. lol

Take it from me. Those breathers that they sell in discount and napa, its all for show. no real purpose. my suggestion is just connect PCV to intake.

You sure one of the hoses isn't connected to the carb? Because if it is, you need to get a filter for that thing. :uhoh:

if we are talking about the same thing...it happened to me when i got my intake, i had it just hanging there for a while, but once i got tired of looking at it i had someone cut it off that knew what to do with it. he just cut it and sealed it so the anti-freeze wouldn't come out! (which it did right after he cut it) i would say leave it unless you know someone who can cut it for ya and make sure its done right...but make sure your car hasn't been running for a while because we made the mistake of doing it right after i've been driving for an hour and it was hot and hard to seal! but leaving it hanging wont do any harm!
