I just got back from putting my cat "Sam" down. He was old and in poor health. I just needed to say that pets are a huge part of our lives, and i never really knew how hard it was to see one go. I was pressent for the whole thing. It was sad, but i realised I was Much happier with him beeing gone and without pain, than here with pain. So this thread is in honor of "SAM".

That sucks, bro. :( I can't even imagine what that would be like. I would cry like a little girl if I had to put my dog to sleep.

I know how you feel man. Although awhile ago, i had to put down my dog of 7yrs and that was when i was a kid, so it hit me hard. its gonna suck with my current pet. i love her and ive had her for...now 7yrs, but shes small, so she has awhile in her, i hope.

"Savor the taste of the fruit of life
whilst it is still picked ripe from the vine,
but beware; the taste turns bitter over time."
It is relieving to know that a loved one feels nothing when it is used to pain. I'm sorry for the loss, RIP Sam.

Damn that sucks, I know how you feel though. My whole family are big on cats (maybe we're all destined to be the crazy cat people, who knows) and a few have had to be put down. Sucks man.

i think that losing a pet is something that we can never prepare ourselves to deal with fully. They may not play AS big a part as your family or something, but you notice it when they are not there. even when i take my dog to the groomers i walk into my house after dropping her off and there is a sense of lonliness. one of my good friends just put his dog down after 17 years. it was having kidney failure and wouldn't eat.
i'm really sorry about your loss man. a pet is never replaceable and the memories are forever.

I know how you feel cept my parents put our cat down 3 weeks ago and didn't tell anyone. My mum told me but I thought so was joking so I was like yeah okay, came home a few days later from the weekend from hell and my dads like "we got Rusty put down". My oldest bro was so mad that no one told him. He won't let it go. We had her for about 14 years.

I don't post much, but on another board I frequent we had a member lose a pet recently. Someone posted this for him:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

To me, that sounds like a kid being excited about going to the toystore or something, "I can't wait, I can't wait!" *Big grin*...
Enjoy your Rotty while you can, even if she drives you insane, it's those little quarks that make a pet unique...

sorry 'bout your cat, man. i had to put my cat to sleep about a week ago cuz she had parkinson's disease and had very limited use of her hind legs/hips. it sucks big time but you just have to tell yourself that it's really in their best interest. after a certain point you're just keeping them alive for yourself, it's almost selfish not to do it.

that's why some people just shouldn't have animals.

I have a golden retriever, i've had her for 11 years. that means she's been with me for 60% of my life. i'll miss her emensly when she goes. we brought her to the breader's for a week because there was going to be a tonne of people at my house and we'd have to be running around for a wedding and it was too much to have her there and guests, etc. for that one week the house felt so empty when nobody's there. i'm never really alone when people leave because i always have Abby but it'll be horrible when she's gone. her dad lived until 15 and her mom until 13 so i think she's got at least 2 years left.
sorry for your loss man, i'm not looking forward to that day at all.

Sorry to hear about Sam, thats a real shame and loss. I know how you feel though. A little over a year I had to put down my childhood friend and pet that ended up coming with me when I moved away from home. She was a 14 year *tha and over her last year had gotten sick to the point I couldn't stand to let her suffer any longer and was forced into doing something I never thought in a million years I would be able to. Its sad but I think we know deep down inside it was the right thing to do and to give them the peace they finally deserved..

I was just joking about putting my rottweiler down. She's the coolest dog in the world, a little dumb, but awesome nonetheless. I wanted a rottweiler for years and finally decided a couple of years ago it was time to get one. I'd be so weird to come home and not have her there :/
