1990 Chev truck GM 5.7 EFI to a 383 EFI?

I was wondering if anyone has converted, or if its possible to take a 5.7 EFI and make it a 383 EFI in a 88-97 Chev truck. Would it be a simple 400 crank and dampner? What about the ECU and the timming sensor etc..

I have a fair understanding of most terms but I am always open to learn more. I want to have a tow rig with some go without the big boy 454. I'm looking at a 90 Chev with a bad motor. Thanks for your help.

I'm sure its possible. People stroke their motors all the time for more cubes. You may want to hone the block and get it balanced with all the parts. You'll need at the very least a new crank, pistons, connecting rods, and bearings. Look into Lunati and Eagle, because they make complete packages for this sort of thing to take out the guesswork of mixing and matching the parts.

All the above, plus you'll need to send your block to a machine shop to have extra clearances cut out for the 383 rotating ass'y. If you want a torquer, you've picked the right project...

I recently had a rebuilt 383 short block installed in my '90 Suburban with original TBI on Edelbrock intake manifold, smog-legal headers, Crane RV cam, etc.

It took the services of a top NASCAR tech consultant to re-program the stock computers to handle the extra cubes and make it perform to its full potential. With up to 18 mpg highway and enough torque to pull steep hills in 4th overdrive, I'm very happy with the results.
