It was the cobra gt mustang like prolly 1999-2001 or something i dont know, i dont pay much attention to them... Well so i was leaving my house, going 29 in a 25... normal right... well some dick in a mustang just hugs my ass all the way till we are out of the nieghborhood (3-4minutes) and he was in my blind spot on a 2lane road... lol with brights on so that just got me a lil pissed, but i just let it go...I turn onto a 4lane 45mph road.. I granny shift for a while and this kid in the mustang glares at me bc my car ill admit is to loud and a lil ricey sounding even when shiftin at like 3k and keepn it slow.. Well so he points at me and revs it up and laughs... and im 17 i dont feel like getn arrested for stupid shit and loosing my license for many years... but i was pissed and gave little effort... Light turns green i do a quick peel out at a 3k launch nothn special.... then i shift at like 5k... not close to redlineing... and shift a lil hard and churp it a lil... then get up to 6k in 2nd gear... which is like mid 60's mph... so i just slow down... but during the race my friend in the passenger seat watched it and so did i and the mustang gt was reallly trieing hard u can hear it redlining... and long story short mustang driver was to cocky and got beat by over 2 car lengths.... oh and at the next light i look over at him, i didnt care much i wasnt gona rub it in, and he looks away in like shame lol... but ya my integra isnt all rice (loud and no go lol)
*1st mustang kill*
mods to my DA just intake and exhaust lol so like only 140hp to the crank lol and still i beat a mustang gt.... kinda sad.. my car was 1500$ haha

Like you said, it wasn't a cobra! The cobra got a twin cam 32-valve with a V8 producing 305 hp. Even with the gt it's hard to believe...Maybe the car develop only 215 hp but it's capable 0f 285 lb.-ft. of torque. Maybe the guy was a real bad driver or he's car had over 300k on the engine...To be honnest im not a mustang fan, but with a 140 hp integra and intake and exhaust for mods, you must be an exceptional DRIVER!!!!!! plus you tell me he's mustang was manual???

yea torque is key for takeoff and I hate to say it but, our cars dont really produce a large quantity without a shit load of work. mabey he wasnt trying to race you, mabey he was just driving normal and you barely stayed 2 cars ahead while beatin on your teggie

man even with your intake and exhaust you would more than likely be hard pressed to run a mid 15. The 1997 gt can probably pull at least a mid-high 14? I know the 2000ish ones are low 14's

If you had a gs-r or a type R I'd say maybe the mustang driver messed up and you pulled it, but you would have had to drive it hard, not barely trying like you said.

Any way I call BS a DA LS,GS,RS cannot pull a GT that much hardly trying. sorry. I don't mean to insult you or anything or say your car is slow or that your are lying, all i'm saying is that in a real race this wouldn't happen without a very very odd situation. Something like he wasn't racing, or he screwed up, or his car is very very tired, or maybe the previous owner of your car did something to it that you don't know about. I dunno what the case is but either way something had to have happened.

if youve ever had a real life experience with one of those model GTs theyre actually pretty slow...i raced one in my sisters sentra XE 5spd and it pulled about 2 cars...and my friends b16 hatch with intake and exhaust pulled on one too...and the cobra only puts out 275hp to the crank in that model...i think that generation of mustang was pretty slow they didnt impress me one bit...the next generation was A LOT faster

Actually the 97 cobra did have 300 hp not 275. The GT however was pretty weak.

what would you say an average GT from that year could run with an average driver? I'd hope they were breaking into 14's at least right?

Maybe a really high 14 if they were lucky. I would say low 15's were the norm. If the 96 mustang were released with the same heads and intake manifold as the 99, the mustang wouldn't have been as far behind the camaro counterparts as it was. The extra power in 99 was really too little too late in my opinion. I am never really that sceptical when I hear about modded civics and what not beating up on a 96-98 GT.

The 97 muntang was maybe weak but IMO nothing comparable to a base integra. I got a type-s and raced againts a 98 gt mustang and i was a little faster. Even with only 215 hp, the car produce 285 lbs/torque. So on the highway "maybe..." has a chance but not on the start. BTW i don't know why people talks about the cobra, the dude told us it wasn't one and it was only a gt. Everybody know's that aginst a cobra it,s not even worth to talk about it...

Yeah off the line the 97 GT will do a little better than from a roll, the only reason I referenced the Cobra was because there was question about its HP rating. I didn't think for a second that this race involved any cobras.

I call BS. It was the 150HP V6 you raced.

I had a modified B16 running mid 14's in my old 1990 'Teg, and I barely pulled 1 maybe 2 cars by 100 on stock SN95 GT's (the kind you raced).

I always thought all Mustangs were slow. More hype than go.

Put a notch in your shifter.
