Instrument Gauges on 82 El Camino

Well, the El Camino I recently purchased runs good, but it has absolutely zero in the way of optionals... including the instrument cluster... I have Gas, and speed.. that's it...

So, my question is, if I were to find a full cluster on eBay or something, would it just be as simple as swapping them out? or would I have to mess with a bunch of wires that I am far from qualified to tinker with...

If you get a gauge cluster, you would have to change the oil pressure sender and the temp sender. This is easy to do.

As for swapping it over, I believe the wiring harnesses are compatible, so it's just plug and play.

However, the stock gauges (volts, oil press and temp) really are not much better than lights....they are quite inaccurate, with small needle sweep and somewhat useless numbers.

A set of good quality gauges, especially the mechanical kind with the 270 deg needle sweep are MUCH better (probably cheaper, too) - and you can keep the stock idiot lights as well!!
