Automatic Door Locks

Hello everyone,

My door locks keep opening and closing, wont stop. So during the night it runs the battery down. Anyone have a solution and also where and which fuse to disconnect the door locks until I can repair.

What year is your Taurus? Does the interior light stay on too? If so, it sounds like you are experiencing the common sticky door switch.

This condition has been addressed numerous times, and I'm tired of retyping the same thing every time. Search the forum for "door switch" and you should find details on how to go about performing a pretty long term fix. And I still suggest using a proper electrical parts cleaner rather than WD-40, but people have had luck with WD-40. I'm an electrical engineer by diploma and have seen the aftermath of what WD-40 can do to electrical components....

Thanks, I did do a search in here first for "door switch ford taurus" resulting in 6 links. Non of which were for a ford Taurus. Then I did do a search for "door Switch" for 298 links non of which I could see were for a ford taurus. Then I posted. I could have overlooked it in the 297 links, nevertheless I have a 97 wagon. Thanks

There are two search engines for this forum. One in the upper left that is a google search and one at the upper right (search this forum) that will search just the Taurus board.
The most likely cause is dirty, sticking switches in the door latches. Some people have had good success in using WD-40 to clean and free them. WD-40 will clean the grime, but will leave a sticky film attracting more grime in the future. You will have to clean the switches in all the doors since it is nearly impossible to determine witch one(s) is(are) causing the problem without taking the doors apart. Electrical contact cleaner won't leave a sticky residue. Just spray it into the latch and open and close the door until the problem goes away. Repeat as necessary on each door.

Spray a liberal amount of lubricant into the door latch slot [on the driver's door first] and work the latch several times. This WILL cure the problem, dirt just builds up and the latch goes crazy. Check with your Ford service department, by phone to confirm.

THanks to all you for the pointers....As for the local Ford Dearler I did that. There reply was they weren't allowed to release that information. I do believe this will be my last Ford... Again thanks

Sounds like a stupid-a$$ dealer, I'd let them know it in no uncertain terms,, my local dealer has a great service dept, I wouldn't hesitate to ask them a question, if the guy at the desk doesn't know it, he'll grab a mechanic, I've even had them return my call at a less-busy time.. unfortunately I think the slow car sales are taking their toll, I stopped up at the local autoparts store, guy working there had worked at above said dealer for 12 years, he was part of a 24 person layoff due to slow sales which of course affects every aspect of the business, he doesn't know if he's ever going to be called back..

Spinfactor- Did you ask at the service department or parts counter? I usually get the most help from the parts counter because the parts guys work on commission and want to sell me parts.
