Had any work done lately, like on the ignition. Could be a signal problem or a short in a wire some where.

We haven't done anywork on the ignition but my signals have been not working until u hit the fourway and then they work and come to think about it. Someone hit me in my passenger door and didn't tell me and after that thats when the signals started missing up.

Ok I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS. The radio' audio has started to fade in and out. I never loose power to the radio but the audio drops as well as the chime (trunk is open or door is open) goes out when the audio is out on the radio. Sometimes the audio is on and I can be driving down the road and it will finally come on and stay on or go out again. I havent had any work done on it recently.

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks
JJ

Yours sounds like mine started doing and go out and back in again and it is out again sounds to me it has something about 00 and 01 sound systems and u now when u open the door and if u got the key in it don't sound off now either i almost believe it is an electrical problem. Thats what i think.

My Daughter's '00 Malibu's radio messed up after she bought it (used). Is any ERROR coming up on your display? It was on her's she had to take it to Chevy dealer and have it reprogrammed. Also you said you had been hit could it have pinched your antenna wire?

no error messeage is coming up and it was ht on the passenger door toward the back of the door it put a big dent in it the display is on it shows the time and station and that is it no sound wonder if i could undo the battery and then hook it back up wonder if that would bring it back on.

I have a 01 Monte SS, same thing with Radio. It's probably the radio. I currently have radio at Aftermarket shop to see if it's repairable. But, I do know that a new one is absolutely outrageous from GM.
I will post when I learn the diagnosis.

This car has been a 5 year Nightmare! :shakehead

Minnie, my radio problem was the Mini-amp & a transistor...2-3 month waiting time for parts from GM! No surprise there.
Check out Cherry-auto.com an Automotive Recyling Co. Their stuff comes w/ a Warranty & you can buy up if you choose & they are reasonably priced. Cheaper than aftermarket.

could be dirty 60 amp fuses in the main electrical block under the hood. To illistrate my point at 40 amps it only takes 0.05 ohms to create a voltage drop of 2 volts. All kinds of wired things can happen to systems when they have that much of a voltage drop between them, especially with the GM VPW system, in it all of the brains (yep there are more than one, my wife's Monte Carlo has 5) alk on this bus, but if one of them is getting 14 volts for it's power and the other is getting 10 volts they may be independantly working fine, but not communicating, this can cause a security light as well. And to make it worse, they may be receiving traffic from time to time, so they dont set a trouble code, but not often enough to keep things from going beserk.

So min was it your amp in your trunk? I had a guy resolder a few points on the amp it work for about 2 weeks, then audio started to fade in and out. guess I'll try another shop. Cant afford a new amp from GM though. Can I buy a bypass and get an aftermarket amp? Anyone?

Hi everyone, My radio cut off suddenly in my 2002 monte carlo. I check the fuse on the passenger side and got nothing. Can anyone help with this problem. Is it just some wiring, the amp or codes needs to be reset. Please let me know thanks.

I just fixed an amp from 2001 monte carlo, it was cutting in and out with temperature, and occasionally when hitting a bump or if the sub was cranked. The trunk mounted amp gets audio from the head unit, then sends it to the speakers. The amp chips have a mute and standby line - I didn't follow the traces to see which one was the culprit, but I did measure a couple dead resistors in the area. They are near a blue capacitor next to the incoming choke filter circuit, and covered with soft glue. Thankfully the glue comes off easily, but it's a commonly known issue that too hard of a glue on components can crack them - which I assume is what happened.
My fix was R706 and R707, both measured well beyond their rated values when in circuit (and the amp was off). These are both 0805 package, 5%, 1/10W resistors, and should measure as follows:
R706, labeled as 104 = ~100K in circuit (bad one was way higher)
R707, labeled as 103 = ~10K in circuit (bad one was way higher)

After replacing those two resistors, the amp worked just fine, no cutouts - and it had been completely dead for months, and cutting out for a couple years prior.

Good luck fixing, e-mail me and i'll try to fix yours for a fee http://montecarloforum.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

djs2571, thanks for your post I was able to fix my amp and get my radio working again. I had the same problem of the radio fading in and out all the time. My R706 was dead and I had one on some old electronics lying around in my garage. Replaced it and now working fine.
