Hey,
I have a 2001 Jeep cherokee sport that I bought at the end of March 2006.
There have been a few problems that have been really bohering me considering everything was working perfectly when I first bought the car.
The Jeep had 35000km (21735 miles) when I first bought it. Now it has a little over 59000km (36639 miles).
Here are the problems I have been having with it.
1. I hear a loud clunk in the rear when I accelerate or go over a loud bump.
I think it is the Drivesharft, but im not 100% sure on that.
2. The air conditioner no longer works. I thnik there is a leak somewhere cause in the engine bay, the compressor pulley (I think it is called that) starts to turn then it stops. Turns for a few seconds, then stops, etc...
Is this a AC leak somewhere?
3. The hand brake no longer works at all. One time I pulled up on it and it seemed like a line snaped or something. Now when I pull on it, there is no resistance at all. What could that be in the hand brake system? A cable that broke?
Any help would be great!
Ben

Are you driving slowly like in a parking lot over a speed bump or on the road? Does it happen when the front wheels hot or the rear?

Yep, sounds like you're low of refrigernant.

Very likely. If you crawl underneath and look in the center near the CAT, you'll see the e-brake cable. One coming from the trans hump with a bracket that the cables to the the rear brakes loop around. If it's not broken, you may only need to tighten up the nut(s) on the adjuster.

Hey...that loud clunk over bumps is probably your broken park brake cable hitting the exhaust.

The loud clunk has always been there, even before the hand brake broke. But it has been getting worse and worse as time goes by.

The bump your describing could be like a problem i had on my 92 cherokee. I had a broken exhaust bracked and the pipe was bouncing up when i hit a bump. good luck
