Fuel line repair

Hi all, hoping someone can help me with this one.

Replaced the fuel filter on my 91 regal 3.8L last week but had to cut the metal portion of the fuel line from the tank to the filter at the flare nut as the nut was rounded off.

Subseqently had to rebuild the fuel line by using rubber fuel line and clamps and a replacement metal line with the flare nut fitting at the end to attach to the new filter. There is about 2 inches or less of metal tubing for me to attach the new rubber hose to the original flex fuel line from the tank.

It's leaking at the rubber hose - i don't think there is enough room to clamp on the rubber hose to the original metal pipe.

My question is, can i cut the band off the flexible portion of the fuel line (it runs from the tank to the filter and 7/8ths of it is like flex metal hose, the other 1/8th is regular fuel line) and remove the hard fuel line and replace it with new fuel line?

if i do this, will i have to flare the ends of the replacement metal fuel line so fuel doesn't travel back into the rubber hose when i revv the engine?

Does any of this make sense? Any help is greatly appreciated!!
