Hey guys
do decals yellow or lose their colors over the years?
like even the ones that are on the models?
i guess the best way to protect it is to use a clear coat, but i'm scared the clear coat will melt or wrinkle them.
So what is the alternatives? Future floor polish from walmart? or Mr. Top coat (water based clear coat)?

Well, I bought an Integra with "yellowed" decals, when I actually used the decals, they appeared yellow. But I'm not sure if it has something to do with age.

Yeah, I think they do "yellow" over the years, my dad had a 58 Kombi model and we found it about 2 years ago, It was all smashed up after dad moving houses for around 27 years, but its decals had yellowed alot. Humbrol make a "decalfix" that might do something to protect from colouring, i got some last week. Havn't used it much but it makes decal application, moving & placement alot easier/better.

Keep models away from sunlight..
Also, don't use any clear coats that appear yellow in the bottle...if it's yellow in the bottle, it's yellow on the model.

Old unused yellowed decals can usually be lightened up by placing them in direct sunlight like on a window sill !

Yes, they will yellow no matter what you do to protect them. The best advise is to avoid decals with large white and silver areas (they show the most discoloring), and always trim your clear borders completely away before using the decal.:)
