Got a 91 Eagle Talon and a 91 Plymoth Laser that both rev high. The laser idles at about 2500 and the talon will be up and down. Anyone else have a problem with the misibitsi engine (sorry bout spelling)? We've taken the engine completly apart and had the engine redone, but still revs high. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Cammy

This may be of no use at all but I would have the battery checked. I've had cars that idel higher to produce enough power to keep the car running.

That was probably the most butchered spelling of mitsubishi I've ever seen. It's not even close and if you actually pronounce it out you will understand lol.

I will bet it's the IAC or TPS.

That would be a problem with the alternator

If it was your Idle Air Control ( ISC ), let me know I have one, that I bought off ebay, work perfect. I dont use because my old ISC is still work. $60+s/h, that same price I got from ebay.

Thats what we thought too untill we worked all day long and the last thing we checked was the battery, and that was the problem. Try taking out the alternator and taking it napa or checker to have it checked. Take your battery at the same time. Checking is free.

ive heard people saying that on some older models(and 91 is pretty old) the throttle cable will heat up and shrink. this pulls back on the throttle plate and opens it up a little. i'd imagine that over time the cable would little by little stop expanding out to its regular size as it cools down. in any case, make sure its adjusted properly, take off the pipe connected to the throttle body and look at the plate to see if its fully closed. also you could check the biss screw. there are more detailed posts on this site about adjusting the cable and screws and what-not.

simplest things first i guess.

if you cant figure it out get a honda.

The throttle cable on all cars when heated up will shrink. That's why there's play in the cable when cold, but none when warm. It could be too tight, if it was ever removed from the tension brackets. If so, I think this is your problem. On the intake manifold there are 2 bolts that hold the throttle cable onto it. Loosen both of them and adjust the cable so that it's almost fully tight, but still some slack.

The TPS and the IAC or ISC, which ever one, are on the throttle body. There's ways to test these out. It doesn't seem like a constant high idle would be a symptom of one of these going bad. I had both go bad and it surged... but didn't stay constant.
