Hello,
I have a 96 Metro and the rear brake shoe adjusters are not the star wheel type I am used to. Instead it goes across the top and has a cam type mechanism with fine teeth on it. I assume it will self adjust when I apply the brakes in reverse after I'm done installing the new shoes. Am I correct? Also how do you back them off if you want to remove your drums and you have a lip on the edge of the drum?I have checked for an access hole in the backing plate and don't see one. Thanks in advance for any info.

Did mine a couple of years ago. Don't recall the exact details now but as I recall I also did not remember seeing an access hole although the manual talks about backing off via the access hole. I found there was no need to back it off - the drum just came right off. Did not even need a puller....

Also as I recall you back the brakes off for the new pads by inserting a screwdriver into that cam thing. Overall the whole job was a bit of a pain - again don't recall now but something was quite difficult to remove.

The manual simply says that the brakes are self adjusting - not sure if you have to reverse or apply the handbrake or just brake heavily to help the adjuster.
