the lights behind the HVAC controls are white.
The red comes from the knobs, they are transperant red plastic.
The plate that covers the HVAC(with the fan settings and selectorS) emits the red/blu glow around it.
You can buy after market gauge faces,
heres a couple places that sell them.(they arent cheap though)

pretty sure andys auto sport has some face plates also.http://andysautosport.com/ (http://andysautosport.com/)

I bought HVAC from http://www.customautoaccents.com/ ... pretty simple to install .... still working on my shifter face ... gotta fix it sometime... but yea as xi said the knobs are molded red plastic and cannot be changed.
I changed out my shifter 194 bulb with a autometer blue LED to fit my white faced blue glow shifter face and it looks sweet ... with the OE bulb in there the colors look kinda teal, and not as bright as they should be... you'll see this on the HVAC gauges but theres not much you can do unless you can take apart ur HVAC internals and solder up some LEDs in there

The prices don't look too bad from there.
I might have to pick those up myself.
