OK i have a 1973 nova 350. I can't seem to set the idle on this rochester 2bbl carb. and also while i was checking the rpm i switched my meter over to the dwell option...i noticed it was like 37 or so so i adjusted to between 29 and 30....and it keeps going back up:banghead:.......whats the prob and what do i need?.......i have put a new timing cog and chain on....since my old one had the plastic deal on it and cracked and was like clattering and stuff...though when i took the old cog off the dots were aligned and when i put the new one on they were still aligned so i dunno if that has anything to do with it but ok...

As for the increasing dwell, if it's a brand new set of points, the plastic cam follower may be wearing into the breaker cam on the distributor shaft. I used to see that on cheap aftermarket Uniset-clone point sets that had plastic instead of phenolic for the follower. It's hard to beat the old Standard Blue Streak Unisets. You may also have a faulty condenser.
For the carb, is it a 2GC/2GV?
Your timing set is probably fine. More detail on the carb function might help.

it's night time here so no info on the carb yet but i will have it by tomorrow....and um i guess the points are new....but i i dunno been driving it for a while...though it only has original 56,000 miles....bought it from a grandma surprisingly...she had it serviced every 3000 miles since she bought it....and um it had a smog pump on it....i "monster garaged" that piece(taking and throwing across the yard) and plugged the headers with brass fitting until i can get some new ones.......there was a vaccume hose that was connected to the smog....i just cut it down some so it wouldn't get in the fan....and if by condenser you mean the ac one....yeah i yanked that out....i'm removing all the ac gear now....

I meant the condenser in the distributor (capacitor) may be failing.
If you cut a vacuum hose, it probably should be plugged.

also could my timing be off since i changed my timing cog....since the other one was worn the fuck out....and i guess they adjusted to the wear of the old cog...could that cause a dwell increase problem?
