i own a 1986 oldsmobile cutlass ciera and its got no muffler right now (it was rusted right out after sitting for 4 years so it was cut off) im wanting to get it even quieter then stock as its already been modified to pass emissions easily i now want to get it as close as i can to silent.

im wondering if putting a larger truck muffler on it would quiet the car or do something along those lines.

No, in fact, it would probably do the opposite with its larger diameter piping and whatnot. Go with a muffler off a smaller car but don't do too small or your engine will run terribly. You could also try the autozone universal mufflers. They're about as loud as stock but if you put two in a row you might get what you're looking for.

you can also add some "resonators" ahead of the stock muffler to further quiet it down, or simply put 2 mufflers in series. The resonators will effect power less though.

Gotta be careful with making it too quiet...then you start hearing engine noises you've never heard before :icon16:
