I have a 1996 Intrepid, tranny went out. I bought a builder car which is a 1995 Chrysler New Yorker. They both have the same motor in them the 3.5,24 valve, dual overhead cam, high output motor. Will the trannies swap out right? Will the mounting, linkage, and wiring be the same or a pain in my ass? My local Dodge man said it wont work. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your local dodge man is smoking something and the transmission will fit and has everything the same but the wiring harness.the 1996 and 1997 harness is differerant, the 1996 and 1997 have plug ins for the rear oxygen sensors.I have put in 1995 transmissions in 1996s and they do work. The whole exhaust has to come out and the water tube is bolted on the top two bellhousing bolts. If you get get lucky, the tabs for water tube are bent over holding on the top two bellhousing bolts and that is one way to tell if the transmission has been replaced before.

Thanks for the info.So the only thing different is the wire harness? Is there an easy fix for that? Thanks again

Use the wiring harness for the 1996.
