Hey, my buddy just got his 94 RX7 twin turbo. I gotta 1991 Talon Tsi awd and the guy wants to race me from the stop. My mods will include: k&n air intake, 3" test pipe, and maybe a MBC if i get it in. do you guys think i can win. OH, this is going to happen at a racetrack, so its safe. My driving is good and fast, only negative is the usual second gear in my car. He has trouble with third. I think i will win from the stop, but what do you guys think? if i have the MBC in, MAYBE boost it up to 16-17 psi. how much psi can i get with 110 race gas though? i've been in his car and it doesnt pull as hard as i thought a twin turbo fd3s would. my cousin's talon with supportive mods and a evo 16g pulls harder than the rx7. well...i didnt know where to put this but here. thanks for any replying guys!

Since your AWD, you will take him from the stop if you don't bog the launch. He has to be pushing more than 300 hp in that thing, so beyond the launch I think he has you covered and it shouldn't take long to pass you. It's hard to tell though. Let us know how you do.

Hard to say man. I would just go do it and let us know. I would say the RX has you though...

I'm am going to have to say the RX-7 :) An AWD drive launch can only do so much. Since it's a '94 and stock, it can't be pushing much more then 260hp.. but it has sequencial turbos, so very minimal turbo lag. If he has even decent tires, he'll have a very quick launch, probably not up to par with an AWD launch, but close. I've launched faster in my N/A RX-7 then my buddie's '91 TSi AWD, simply because I had 'decent' tires on and he had fairly faded tires. There is a chance you can beat him, there's a chance for anything, really. Horsepower differences aren't THAT far off, so you can win if you do it right.
My guess is that you'll be ahead, until about your first shift (even if you had a properly working second gear). I really don't see a need for the RX-7 to get into third gear.. unless you two are going all out. The only way to know for sure is to try it out. Good luck, and importantly have fun and be as safe as possible :)

on race gas you can max out the 14b no problem, but you might heatsoak in the process
