Hey guys back again, I'm going to buy a mad dog transmisson 700r4 http://www.maddogtransmissions.com/new_index.htm rated at 550hp...but my question is i don't have a motor in the car any where close to 550hp just yet and i'm starting to wonder if that will cause a problem? with a torque convert for a 550hp motor compaired to my stock 170hp motor will this cause a problem?
also if anyone has heard about maddogs transmissions and have anything good or bad to say about them i need to know now so i can know to keep looking or not..any one knows a good transmisson for about the same price with torque converter that could handle about 400+ hp

never heard of em.
the 550 rating is what in can handle without grenading all over the street and will not have any impact on your motor.

apparently that idea is out the window now. Do what one of those guys said, try to find a local builder.

I think b&m makes a 700r in that price range. They are a bit pricey but are good quality. But I would definetly dig around where you are at. Go to some car shows and see who built their transmissions and find out who is good to use.

The rating is the maximum, there's no minimum power level that goes along.

There may not be a min. HP level for converters, but I'd think the stall speed would be lower with a lesser HP input. Someone correct me if I'm wrong..

it will not hurt any thing to have that on a lower hp motor, it will just work better with a bigger cam and more mods.

i think TCI is the best for the money. B&M sucks. If you rebuild yours, take it to a tranny shop, call and see how much they will charge.

ok TCI it is...but should i get lock up or non lock up? what is lock up? is it just as reliable as a non lock up transmission...it says it come up a wire kit for the lock up...what does all this mean? also i'm planning to put a 400hp crate motor, there's a deal on tci streetfighter tranmission its rated at 450hp....will it be ok? or should i go super streetfighter thats rated at 600hp?
