Something is strange about this car

Im looking to buy a 2000 jetta gls that i found on the internet. I saw the VIN number and just decided to put it into the carfax page just to see how many records there were. I put the number in and it said "0 records found." I looked around on the internet and found CarProof which is said to be better than Carfax. I put in the VIN again and it didnt even know the type of car. I tried putting in different VIN numbers of random Jetta's and it found records for all cars on both sites. I dont have an account on either of these sites, but even without it the site would tell you if it found anything. Shouldn't it atleast have registration records like other cars in the records?
Does anybody know what could be the reason for this to happen?
