I wanted to know where I could get the theft protection code for my radio...the one you enter before unhooking your battery..otherwise it becomes non-working. :nono: I didn't get a owners manuel with the car when I bought it. I bought a replacement manuel thru MYGMLINK. I would like to findout my code before I need to undo the battery ...:naughty:

If you registered your car thru mygmlink.com you should have been able to access the owners manual on-line. Also, my battery on my 2001 Malibu just died. I replaced it and had no issues with the radio. I was a bit concerned about fuel guage needle bouncing around as I've seen that as an issue on this forum, but fortunately I changed the battery without incident.

same with me
2001 Malibu, changed the battery and had no problems in the radio
I think it will only lockout when it's tampered with

I found this:
01. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC)
02. Hold down the Radio Presets 2 and 3 buttons for six seconds
03. The radio display changes from LOC to a three-digit number. Write this number down. Don’t take forever, fifteen seconds max before the next step.
04. Press the AM/FM button
05. The radio display changes to another three-digit number. Write this number to the right of the first one.
06. You now have a six-digit number, the first three digits are from STEP 03 and the last three digits are form STEP 05
07. Call 1 800 537 5140 08. Press 1 then # (pound). You’ll hear “Invalid Code, try again”
09. Press 139010 then # (pound). You will be asked to enter your four or six digit code followed by * (start)
10. Enter the number from STEP 6 then * (star)
11. Listen to the four-digit number and write it down. It will be repeated twice
12. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC)
13. Use the MN and HR buttons to enter the code from STEP 11
14. Press the AM/FM button. The radio display changes to SEC Your radio is now “un-locked” and usable. The Theft-Deterrent feature is STILL active! If you want to disable it, use the instruction on page 3-27 in your Y2K Owner’s manual. Use the code from STEP 11 instead of your personal code.

Thanks for the replys.. I found the post that you used about how to unloc the radio...mine isn't showing "LOC"..so I'll keep the directions if I would need them..I had my battery changed out at Sears today, got a Diehard installed..the mechanic there, just used a "memory saver" that he plugged into the cigar lighter... says he uses it on all the newer cars with " Lectronic theft stuff " ....sez he's never "LOC" ed a radio by using it.. I wondered if I just disconnected the battery if it would "LOC".. or would it show "LOC" just if you "unplugged the radio" with the battery still hooked up.I ain't about to try it just to see... :banghead:
