door latch removal

have a 2001 extra cab "4" door. the rear driver side door does not latch properly. on the bottom of the door were it latches to the truck is the problem. the latch does not lock, so only the top one does. I need to replace that latch, how har is it? do i just remove the panel and get to it that way? thanks
