my friend down the street from me has a 1993 4runner with a five speed and v6.
it just started acting up the other day. when they start it the rpm's idle at 500 and the entire car shakes.
i don't know how to adjust it's idle. need help with that.
when they give it gas the rpm's go up and it takes a minute (60 seconds) for the it to move. it's really weird.
any help would be appreciated.

Not sure about that idle problem, it could be a temp sensor, MAF/VAF or IAC motor. The delayed engagement of the transmission sounds like a leaking spool valve inside the valvebody. Are there any trouble codes?

there is no check engine light. but there is a lot of hesitation and once the car does start moving there is almost no power. a geo metro is faster running on two cylinders.

Check the compression. The timing belt may have slipped a tooth.

Speaking of cylinders, how many is it running on? Have the plugs and wires been inspected/replaced?

I'm with Corning_d3. MAF would cause this type of issue, but you should get a code for that. I doubt it is spark plugs and/or cables if everything just started happening all at once. But check to see that there is lightning at the end of the cables, you might have a bad distributor/coil.
Could also be the fuel filter. I've heard of cases where the car has just cut out and stayed off till the filter got replaced. Could be the pump for the same reason, but that would most likely just fail and completely cut out instead of pumping less fuel.
