ok so i see some regualr performance cams out there that say works with stock valve train but what about the oens that say valvetrai nrequired. do you only need to srpings and retainers or lie ka hole valve train. also will ie ver have to worr yabout the valves hitting the pistons.

valve, springs, retainers, and most of the time you will have to shim them to get proper adjustment and pressure out of them. Valves hitting the pistons isnt much of a convern with stock, or low compressoin pistons, and most well designed high compression pistons dont have many issues, but it is something that can happen. A radical cam will also require more than just a valve train upgrade, you will need headwork done to take full advantage of the extra lift and duration.

ya need some grammer check! i just bought all my valvetrain parts(and a lil extra) it set me back 2k. once all my stuff came in, i sent it to my local shop. they are installing it now. just make sure to buy crower keepers. it took me a week to get 'em. i'm gonna try and get the ctr cams. but i gotta b16. head work is recommened. it don't cost much, especially with a homie hook up. but yeah it is great for an upgrade.

Not its not. CTR cams can work with stock valvetrain. I've used it on my poor mans type r set up. 3 of my boys had a stock b16 with ctr cams and also worked fine.

Well be more specific. It depends what cams your getting. CTR cams does not require valvtrain upgrade. I ran with it my motor just fine. CTR would be a nice upgrade.

i was just saying to get the full potential out of the cams, upgrade the valvetrain and then do some head work! i would recommend it.

just a warning, i bought a block off a guy that put in an aftermarket cam w/o upgrading valvetrain, popped a valve head right off and lodged it halfway through the piston, maybe i'll get a pic up one day. pretty nifty lookin. so like the others said if it recommends a valve train upgrade do it. some only recommend valve springs and retainers, some everything. just get a hole of tech support for whoever u'r buying the cam from and ask them. pretty easy really.

how did a block have an upgraded cam. don't you mean a engine, and yes it does depend on what kind of cam you buy, but for me and my taste if i'm gonna do one thing i might as well do two or three more, that's why i have so many parts on my car now.

no. i meant exactly wut i said, i bought a block off of a guy who had put a cam in the head that WAS on the block. when it went k-put, he took it apart, i bought the block, he kept the head.

Yea, if they recommend a valvetrain upgrade, call them up, tell them what you have planned and most of them will work with you and figure out what you need exactly.
