What is your weakness?

What part of this hobby do you feel is where you still need to improve the most?

For me, I'm still having trouble with plain old painting. I have all the basics down, I just have to work on technique.... over, and over.... It's not so much polishing, I think, it's that I don't lay down the last coat of paint smooth enough and thick enough. I worry too much about paint runs...

hmmm.... I kinda got this whole genetic shaky hands thing, which is really bad when I'm tired so I screw up especially with glueing when I shake like that! :jump:

My weakest spot is probably getting the body smooth and shiny. I haven't been able to figure it out yet. Most of my models have a dull look with little shine.

Masking windshields, spraying metallizers, getting a smooth coat of paint from the airbrush.

Mine has to be applying myself to the task in hand effectively, i have so many projects started but not finished. My other weakness is doing too many models at once.

Kinda surprised I am the first to say this, but patience is my problem. It seems only about half of the projects I start ever get finished. And the ones I do finish, I usually start cutting corners towards the end so I can get to the next project. And, I keep buying more kits!!!! :( :( :( :( :( :(
I am hopeless. :( :(

1. I keep buying more than I can build.

2. I start three before I finish one.

3. Windshields.

4. Frustration when something doesn't turn out exactly the way I want it to (usually the clear gloss coat):angryfire

Painting the body...I cannot and doubt I ever will be able to get a smooth coat...I don't even bother with panel lines cause I know I can't do them and window trim too.

Yeah, painting and polishing. I seem to be getting the hang of the latter but I still need more practice. Also the fear of screwing something up, that's why I am afraid o try new things (like openning doors)

Body paint, especially with light and metallic colours.
Some stupid tendency of doing some mistake in every new model. :(

Mine just lies in general careless-ness :(

I will add in on the bandwagon here and say paint is my biggest problem also. I put masking off right up there too. I hate it when I think I mask off an area well then pell it off to find out the paint either ran or over spray got through!!:crying:
Even the lacquer paint can be a bitch at times. Not mixed right can make blobs on the car body and or water in line can "F" up a paint job real fast!

I just can't figure how to properly glue clear parts.

Any help would be appreciated. :(

Hmm, I would probably say my biggest weakness was a total lack of modeling skill :D

OK, if I'm slightly less harsh on myself I'd say my brush painting skills are a bit poor, and I sometimes rush things because I'm too excited about finishing a model.

I could probably fix the brush painting problem by buying an airbrush :) but no amount of money is going to overcome impatience :(

Hot chicks with long legs and dark hair! ;)

Seriously though, first would be painting. I sometimes find it hard to get that glass like finish. More skill is needed here. Next would be my tendency to build a little bit of every kit I have every other day. The end result is no models being completed after months of 'work'. :bandit:

for me its doing a good paint job on the pieces that no one will actually see because i think whats the use if no one will ever see it.
and also getting back into the modeling mood after a couple months off, seems like i take a few months off every now and then.

I just can't figure how to properly glue clear parts.

Any help would be appreciated.

Use Microscale Kristal Kleer, or Elmer's Glue. Do NOT use superglue (aka cyanoacrylate) or modeling glue. VApors from superglue will cause clear plastic to fog up, and if you get modeling glue on any place other than the gluing section than it will fog it up.

Masking the clear windows for doing the black...its always the last thing i do. I keep putting it off each time.
Thank god Tamiya have a paint decal with most of there new kits.

The other is is spending to much time being a "old fuss pot" on some part that will never be seen....example being, painting the pedals of cars...who the heck sees them way down there in the foot well when the car is finished, but they still have to be painted nice....right??

I always seem to get just a LITTLE bit of glue on the windows, or when I paint the chromes around the windows on muscle cars and they dont come out straight...the chrome is just a wavy line

Knowing when to stop a project and call it done! I still add parts and details to older models and need to just lock the cabinet, and get on with newer projects.
I too, have WAAAAYY too many models being worked-on at the same time.
I also need to quit buying EVERY darn model that even may interest me. That's why I'm gonna blow-out 150 models over the next month on e-bay! Am I really that interested in a 1989 Pontiac LeMans?? No?! Then why on earth did I buy one??!!
            Stop me, before I buy again!!!
