06 Tacoma, 4dr TRD off-road.
I just reached my forst 3000 miles and did an oil change with Mobil 1 5w-30 and Bosch Oil filter.
I noticed that the Bosch oil filter is significantly smaller than the Toyota filter that was originally on there. I went back to the auto store and looked at the Mobil filter and that one was also smaller (same size as the Bosch).
What's up with the smaller size? Should I be concerned.
Anyone recommend an oil filter...?

Why don't you use a Toyota oil filter? I have a filter cutter and have cut a Bosch, I wouldn't use one in my car or truck. I have a feeling that Bosch and the Mobil filters are both made by Champion. I haven't cut a Mobil yet so I'm just guessing. I always use the factory filter while the vehicle is under warranty. If you want to use something else I would recommend a Wix, NAPA Gold (made by Wix) or a Motorcraft if you can find the correct filter for your truck. The last time I checked Carquest filters were also made by Wix. I don't work for a filter company but those mentioned are filters that look well built when you look inside. A Purolator PureOne is also good.

I've just seen in other threads that any filter is fine as long as its not FRAM.
What's the going rate for Toyota filter? And I assume its only available at the dealer?

My dealer usually has a discount if you buy 4, the last I bought were $4.50 each, normal retail $6.95. I wouldn't use Bosch, Fram, Walmart (Champion) or STP (Champion) in my cars. They will all filter and you may never have problems with them. The Tacoma filter is small and so you don't need a poorly designed oil filter in it.
Here is a cut Toyota Tacoma filter after use.

When you buy a replacement filter at Toyota it will have a Toyota part number that is different than the OE filter part number. I have noted the same trend in Mazda and Nissan filters. Replacements I have purchased were made in the USA. I'm not sure who made them.
Here is another link of some filters for MGB, these filters are all much bigger physically than the Toyota filter. Notice how small the Bosch element is. The bypass valve in it will always leak but more important it probably will not open if the filter element clogs. If it did open the oil pressure would pbobably be low.

thanks for info and photo links. I'll go with the toyota, then may be try the other kinds - I read positives on NapaGold, Wix and Puralotor. And may be break them open to see for my self.
