Newbie Here Command-Trac Question

User,s manual said when going into 4lo you must slow to 1 to 3 mph.
Put transmission in neutral while coasting and then shift trans case into
4lo.
Ok, Then it said,s when climbing steep hills use 4lo if needed by just pulling into 4lo while tranmission is (engaged) in lower gear? 2nd gear ect.?
Also it mention,s to use 4lo to decend steep hills if needed. Are we talking off road steep hills or just steep mountain terrain hills.
If it,s just decending mountain roads 'wouldn,t 4hi be ok with trans in 2nd gear or 1st gear to help control decent with transmission gears?
Book also overly states to always use emergency park brake no matter where you park on incline or flat surface. Due you really need to engage parking brake
on a flat level,isn,t transmission in park position good enough?
Can someone help clearify whats best to do?

4Lo is for off road or slippery conditions only, so don't use on the highway.
When descending a steep slope, if the gearing in 1st and 2nd in 4HI isn't sufficient to keep you slow, then go to 4LO and you'll have a better selection of gears. Max speed will be based on your tachometer, because you'll run out of engine speed before you get too fast, even in 5th.
With a little practice you'll get the feel for it. Just don't use your part time 4wd on pavement or you'll be looking at expensive repairs.

Parking brake is up to you, but if it's not flat then you'll probably want to set it...don't want your Jeep to go for a drive without you.

If there's a hill where you'll need 4LO, then be in low before you get there. Follow your owner's manual, it says to be in neutral and moving 3-5mph while shifting from4hi to 4lo. Again, with some practice you'll get it.

What year do you have?
Try it like this after you find a dirt road or after a rain storm.
Stop the Jeep, shift in to neutral (mine is automatic), Then use the command trac lever and put it into 4WD LO. There will be a grinding, just pull straight and hard. Now drive it around. You will see it doesn't go very fast. Now stop and shift it into 4WD high and drive it around and you will see the difference.
Normally, I do not shift into 4WD LO unless I stop. I would only use it for serious off the road work (like going up a hill with no fire trail at all). Try it and it will make sense.

Thanks for all the imput imfo. on Command-trac it has really help clear
up questions I had.
Hot here up in northern nys today 93 deg,s with over 70 dewpoint.
Even my Black Lab took his coat off and got under the fan.
