Replacing Breaks

I'm a do-it-yourself type of person and I need to change the brakes on my 97' Taurus and have no clue how to go about it. I've gone to websites that tell you how, but I don't know what half the things are that they're talking about. Is there anyone that can give me a step by step process for my car?

Haynes and Chiltons both can give you a step by step detail with pictures.

About 13 dollars at any parts store.

Really anyone that is going to work on their car should have one handy.

When I help a friend work on their car I insist that they bring a manual when they bring the car.

Thanks for the info....I got bored last night and decided to disassemble the whole thing and figured out how it workes... I'm definately investing in one of those manuels, probably Haynes... they look a little more detailed. Took a liitle while but I eventually got all five breaks replaced... yeay me, first do-it-yourself break job ever. :p

Umm.... Five? :uhoh: I been doing my own breaks for like 8 years now, give or take, and I have never ended up doing five. (Car only has 4 wheels, right?) Maybe (hopefully) you mean four. :wink:

I suspect mechamaniac may be a bored person posting questions looking to get some of us hyper with all sorts of comments like "if you don't know what brakes are or how they work, by all means don't try this because it affects your safety and the safety of others on the road," etc.

Especially since he posted the original question at 2:35am then posted that he did the work "last night" 13 hours later on the same date.

HAHA, Oh that was priceless....BTW, I'm not a he, I'm a she... and yes I do know what brakes are and how to replace brakes, and I do know that there are only 4 brakes on a car and not 5. I was just messing with you guys. I have to admit it was pretty funny. I own a garage and I spend most of my nights fixing cars in it. I do get bored alot then and it's a hobby I love to do. thanks for the laugh guys. :cwm27:

my friend is having trouble controling the steering in her car... she had taken it in and they can't find anything wrong... I checked the PS fluid and did a systems check on my lap top but I couldn't find anything..what do you think it may be?

At a minimum, since this post is unrelated to your previous thread, start a new thread. That will also help so not as many people read about your idea of fun and completely ignore you.

If you honestly need help with the steering question, post more details such as specifics about what the problem is, what the type of car is, etc. An apology for wasting our time with your previous thread would be a good start as well.
