antenna problem

I have a 2000 mitsubishi galant. It seems to have an internal antenna and the radio tunner does not work. when i put an antenna from a radio control car into the antenna wire from the back of the radio it works, but when i connected to the antenna wire to the car it doesnt pick up that good. it used to pick up many stations clearly. Is there a fuse that it needs in order to work if no what could be the problem?
