What are you trying to do? If its hooking up stock speakers, red wire is power, black is ground, nothing too complicated.

You can buy this book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1884089852/sr=1-1/qid=1154135982/ref=sr_1_1/104-5486215-5458329?ie=UTF8&s=books). It's only $19. I own it, and it's pretty good so far.

With an amp and subs, you need to do a bit of research on what gauge wire you need for how many ohms your running and watts. Things youre going to need are audio cables, gauge wire(varies by size), remote wire(usually a length of speaker wire), speaker wire, box, possibly a cap. I would take it all to circuit city, they warrenty their work and that way you wont blow anything up....If you do happen to do it yourself, make a video ;)

It isnt hard, but if you fuck it up bad enough you could blow your system or start your car on fire. Just read up and be sure you know what you are doing.

When I had my dash fire, it was caused by me being stupid when I installed the stereo.
Everybody should write this down, the orange wires that come from an aftermarket wiring harness are meant for a dimmer inside of the stereo. If your stereo does not have that option then make sure you tape those wires up not any wheres close to each other. Mine actually fused together.
