I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee with the 4.o liter... just the other day the steering started to act up... when the wheel is certered you turn it to the right or to the left just a few inches you can feel it bind like it gets tight then it looses back up the further you turn.... the front end is all new after the problem started... ball joints and u joint... and suggestions would be great

Since the problem started after you had the front end work done, I'd take a look underneath while someone turns the wheel, to make sure nothing is binding or out of alignment.

Fresh PS fluid won't hurt, you may want to replace that (turkey baster works good for removing old fluid)

OK so it started before the work was done. When I got my 2000 Grand Cherokee 4.0, the power steering would sometimes get much harder to steer, then go back to what it had been. I replaced what fluid I could, removing as much as possible from the reservoir and refilling. I repeated several times whenever the problem came back, maybe a week in between times. Eventually, no more problem.
