tape gum residue

ok... this is 100% my fault.
i had masked off an area of my 993 turbo to re-clear that panel and I had left it in my conservatory to dry in the baking heat.
when i got back to it and began to remove the tape, there was masses of the tape/gum left on the paint that is really not wanting to budge.
I guess there is such a thing as too much heat.....
anyone have any ideas of how to clean this mess up or is soak, scrub, re-spray time?

First I would recogmend that you let it cool down and dry.
Then wrap some masking tape, sticky side out around a finger, and tap the messy areas.. this will take some time but you should be able to clean it up without harming the paint.. unless of course the glue has somehow eaten into the paint..

PS: don't soak it in washing liquid... the paint will etch.

What kind of tape, what kind of paint?
You may or may not be able to clean it up with polishing compound, or maybe window cleaner- if it wouldn't damage the paint.

just got in from a long night out....
anyway.
it was regular painters' masking tape on tamiya TS, figuring that i'd remove it prett quickly anyway (which i didn't).
in frustration, i began to polish the rest of the car anyway and lo and behold, i found that my new favourite finishing polish (autoglym resin polish) has an ability to make the glue/gum semi "wet" when applied wet to the, let's just call it "infected", area.
i've only gone over the gummed areas once but most of it, with careful wiping has been sucessfully removed. The gum does go back to its sticky state very quickly so a mopping up motion was required, as if you were trying to wipe up thick sauce.
That means my 993 turbo is virtually finished!
Post very soon.
